Adoption Update

7/3/2012

It's been awhile since Josh and I updated you on where we are along our adoption journey.
My sister, Kelli, made a joke to me when we started that I had just signed up for another part-time job.
She was so right!

We are still in the heart of the "paper chase"  and training.  I come home everyday from my job to sit at the computer and work on answering questions and ordering government documents.  I try to do everything first, before I give it to Josh to do.  He gets a full warning about everything.  "Babe, you'll feel silly filling this out, but..." or "I need you to start this today, because it will take you a long time."   Sometimes he hears, "Do you want to copy my answers to save time?"  He answers NO...don't judge me teachers!

There are so many things that they want us to think about, how much insurance bills will go up, where will our child go to school in 6 years, and how will our family react. They have activities that we are suppose to go do in the community.  They actually want us to go talk to the counselor at the school we expect our child to attend to see what services they provide.  My dear friend, Haven, is a principle at a school here.  So, I just sent the list of questions to her and she graciously answered them for me!  She's the best.  I do that to my friends.  If it relates to your speciality, you may be called upon to answer questions for me! :D

Anyways, we have been to 2 out of 3 of our home study meetings.  July 3rd is our last home study meeting.  This has been an interesting road.  Not bad, but different.  Being interviewed for approval to be parents! It is much needed, for sure, but when you think about it just sounds funny.  In our first meeting, our social worker said "You need to understand that I am just as much your child's social worker as I am yours.  It is my responsibility to make sure we not just meet your needs, but the needs of your child as well.  It is my responsibility to make sure you will provide a safe and loving home for your child."  I really appreciated that! She's looking out for our child's well being.

Our last meeting, she came to our home.  The "in home" home study!  She was there less than an hour and barely peeked in the rooms.  She didn't ask about our newly bought fire extinguisher, our carbon monoxide detectors, outlet covers, or where our drugs were.  We even had an evacuation plan that she didn't ask about!  However, she did ask "what's your parenting style?"  I think she saw the "OH CRAP!"  look on our faces, because she gave us some hints to get us talking.

Great thing about her is she said "no news is good news.  If there is ever anything wrong, I will tell you immediately!"  That is comforting!  We must be passing inspection so far!

That's where we are!  I just took an hour break from paperwork to write two blog posts.  Back to the forms!

Later!
