I had this ready for you Monday, but the week got in my way. One day I'll tell you about this week, but not right now. Also, I promise I have some other ideas for the blog while we finish up some paperwork and start our waiting phase of the adoption promise. However, today I'm giving you a small way to support your friends and families.
Josh and I spent hours last Saturday reading and training!
This made me think of a simple way you can support your friends and family.
Read with us!
Josh and I have signed contracts that we will read a certain amount of adoption parenting books.
This weekend, we read a great one called The Connected Child, by Karyn Purvis. It has some great parenting tips, but also addresses stuff that the adopted child may face, due to life in the orphanage.
Something to remember: You will see us do things a little differently. That's okay. Reading books, like we do, can help you support and understand a little bit of why we do what we do.
Here are a list of other books we will be reading:
Raising Adopted Children: Practical, Reassuring Advice for Every Adoptive Parent
The Whole Life Adoption Book: Realistic Advice for Building a Healthy Adoptive Family
Adoption Parenting, Creating a Toolbox, Building Connections
How it Feels to be Adopted
Carried Safely Home: The Spiritual Legacy of an Adoptive Family
Keep in mind the purpose of reading books alongside the family is for understanding, not to judge or tell them how to raise their child. I know all moms hate it when people give advice without listening first or without permission. So, listen, pray, listen, pray, and ask questions about what you read in the books.
Simple stuff, right?!
Just another way we can serve each other.
If you start reading one of these books, let me know!
